How to manage document versions?
This section details common tasks that users may encounter when working with document versions and their solutions. The overall principle that applies to all these tasks is: to start version management you should retrieve at least a single current version of the document first. Once you have it, you may make new versions, fix the current version and so on. To retrieve current version of the document at the first time, simply open it in the browser as you normally do. Getting a new version of the document with discarding of the current versionBy default Ad Annihilator does not make versions of browsed documents. When you want to get a new version of a document but do not want to keep its current (latest) version, you have two ways:
Note that these methods lose the previous version stored in cache. Ad Annihilator retrieves the new version and fixes it. After that this version becomes available in document version list. Getting a new version of the document without discarding of the current versionWhen you want to get a new version of a document and want to keep its current (latest) version as well, you should do the following:
As a result, you'll get two document versions: the first corresponds to the version that was the current previously and the second - to the newly retrieved version. Fixing the latest version of the document as a versionBy default Ad Annihilator does not make versions of browsed documents. Each time you retrieve the same document from the Internet, the previous version is lost and it is replaced with the new version that becomes the new current version. If you wish to keep the latest version so as it is not to overwrite it later, you should fix the current version. There are two ways to achieve this:
After that this version becomes available in document version list. Making Ad Annihilator to make new versions of a single page automaticallyAll previous tasks concerned manual making of document versions. But sometimes it is desirable to make document versions automatically. For example, if you want to keep news archive from a news site, it is needed to make versions of its front page automatically each time you open it. You may instruct Ad Annihilator to make new versions of a page automatically in these two ways:
Starting from this moment, Ad Annihilator will be making new versions of the document automatically each time you retrieve a new document from the Internet. Note that if you want to keep the version that is current at the moment you turned automatic versioning on, you should fix it. Viewing all document versionsTo view which versions a document has you have two ways:
The list under the selected document node contains all document versions. By double-clicking a version you may open it in the browser. If you do not see a small plus sign near the document, then the document has no versions except the current that could be opened by double-clicking the document node. Deleting of a document versionTo delete a document version the following should be done:
Turning off automatic document versioningTo turn off automatic document versioning you should do the same as for turning document versioning on but you should uncheck "Make new versions automatically" option instead of checking it. |
